⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone composed of alpha and beta subunits, primarily produced by placental trophoblastic cells. It plays a key role in regulating reproductive function by mimicking luteinizing hormone (LH) activity. HCG is widely used in research involving endocrine signaling, gonadal function, and hormone regulation, particularly in studies of steroidogenesis and reproductive physiology.

Questions

HCG Common Questions

What’s pIC50?

pIC50 is the negative log of the IC50 value when converted to molar. That is, pIC50=-log(IC50).

What’s Kd?

Dissociation consent (Kd) reflects the affinity of a compound for its target. In some cases, it can be equivalent to Ki.

Description

Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) is a glycoprotein hormone composed of alpha and beta subunits, primarily produced by placental trophoblastic cells. Targets & IC50

Targets:

  • Luteinizing Hormone/Chorionic Gonadotropin Receptor (LHCGR)

  • cAMP Signaling Pathway

  • Steroidogenesis Pathway

IC50:

  • Not applicable (HCG is a hormone agonist, not an inhibitory compound)

In vitro

METHODS: Leydig cells and ovarian granulosa cells were treated with HCG (0–100 IU/mL) for 24–72 hours. Hormone production, receptor activation, and downstream signaling were evaluated using ELISA assays, cAMP measurements, and Western blot analysis.

RESULTS: HCG stimulates steroid hormone production by activating the LHCGR receptor and increasing intracellular cAMP levels. It enhances testosterone synthesis in Leydig cells and supports estrogen production in ovarian cells. HCG mimics LH activity, leading to activation of steroidogenic enzymes and endocrine signaling pathways. No significant cytotoxicity is observed at commonly used experimental concentrations. [1]
